Top 8 Major Trends in Full-Stack Development in 2023

The web development industry has significantly grown over the past few years, and it’s estimated to keep growing in the next few years. The most common type of development is Full-Stack Development, which means having knowledge and experience in both the backend and frontend of web application development. Let’s see which trends will influence this full-stack ecosystem in the future!

1) Cross-Platform Apps

Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are a new way to build mobile applications, often using web technologies like HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. PWAs allow you to create an application that can be used on all modern devices and platforms (iOS, Android, Windows etc.) while providing a user experience similar to native apps.

2) Serverless Computing

In a few years, almost all applications will be developed with a mix of serverless and traditional architecture. In particular, large companies will begin to shift their focus from automating batch processes to real-time event processing. Web applications will also make up a large part of full-stack development. Cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure are improving their infrastructure services by working with open source communities and offering low prices on a pay as you go basis.

3) The Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other). In a typical IoT application, sensors gather data from physical devices or environments and connect to software applications that make that data meaningful through visualization, analysis, or automated actions. For example, IoT can monitor environmental conditions like temperature, sound levels, vibration levels or light intensity and turn on air conditioners before a building reaches 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

4) Mobile App Automation

Mobile app automation is a key trend that enterprises must start preparing for now. Our survey found that nearly 70% of consumers are likely to abandon an app if it doesn’t load or functions slowly. This requires developers to have greater visibility into performance and security issues within their apps, and they can only do so by building an automated test suite into their mobile app development process.

5) Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)

AI and ML have been on many people’s radars for a while now, but few could have predicted their explosive growth over the past two years. As these technologies continue to advance and more companies adopt them, it’s likely that we will see them become more embedded into full stack development methodologies.

6) Blockchain Technology

Blockchain technology is going to be one of, if not THE major trend that drives future development. Blockchain is a distributed ledger that will have an enormous impact on every industry in which there are transactions and records to be kept. Within ten years, blockchain technology will make itself a permanent feature of how our economy functions. To prepare yourself for what’s coming next and how blockchain could impact you professionally: Understanding The New Science Of Money by Neil Hoffman.

7) Unified Communications (UC) as a Service

Providing a unified communications service as a cloud-based hosted solution is becoming increasingly popular, and many companies will continue to be drawn to these options because they provide an easy and cost effective way of bringing UC into their business. These cloud solutions are particularly attractive to SMEs and startups, who don’t have large budgets for such services. The move towards UCaaS means there will be less need for businesses with multiple premises or buildings to invest in expensive onsite hardware.

Conclusion

This year’s Developer Survey is, once again, a snapshot of full-stack development today. One of my favorite trends I saw was that backend vs frontend isn’t even an issue. The majority are working on both. These findings confirm that full stack developers are continuing to grow more and more in demand as time goes on.
