Land of lustrous

Houseki no Kuni, also known as Land Of The Lustrous, is a popular Japanese anime tv series based on fantasy. It’s an anime adaptation of a manga series of the same title. Looking at the popularity of the manga series, Studio Orange decided to adapt it into anime. It premiered in October 2017 and turned into instant success for anime lovers.

The story begins with Phosphophyllite (Phos), who is Phos department’s newest member. The main theme of the story revolved around self-discovery and finding your own place in world which can be summed up as “finding your inner gem” idea that will shine through you and express its beauty to others. The anime series Houseki no Kuni is based on a manga with the same name. It has been adapted by P.A Works and released in 2017 February.

Success of season 1

Houseki no Kuni is a wonderful anime that’s worth the watch for those who love fantasy. It’s adapted from a popular manga with the same title and it became an instant success in October 2017 after the release of first episode. The story starts when Phosphophyllite (Phos), who is Phos department’s newest member, meets Cinnabar and they try to escape Diamond’s wrath due to their incompetence by using Bort’s abilities, but end up getting caught instead. With this event as catalyst, major events such as Kongo-sensei learning about his own existence and Diamond engaging with other Gems like Cinnabar and Bort occur.

Information about season 2

There was not that much information about upcoming second season online, except for a very vague one from a company representative: “We don’t have the rights to confirm the production of another season yet”. This means that no contract was signed with any producer yet at least as far as we know from this source. So if you see any other rumor on the internet, it is probably fabricated and should be considered as hoax until more official information appears. In theory, if there is enough source material for the second season, it will be produced. The manga is still running and has published 34 volumes (correct at the time of this article). There are enough plot lines to fill out one or two more seasons.

Popularity of Houseki No Kuni

“Houseki no Kuni” is not popular in Japan. only several thousand people watching each episode. But in general, seasonal anime shows tend to have financial loss per episode which means they need to make up for it in disc sales (Blu-Ray/DVD). However, Houseki no Kuni takes an unusual approach. Its blu-ray discs are selling much better than average. This usually indicates that there are many people following the show online instead of buying the discs. If you have a Twitter account, you can see how it is one of the most tweeted shows.

What would be Land of the Lustrous Season 2’s storyline?

As for this season, it might move further into character development. There is no particular scenario possible if you take all three volumes’ story arcs in consideration. If you do so, each volume appears like an independent one shot with its own mood and style. At least in terms of plot, characters can go in any direction afterwards without breaking consistency with what has been presented so far.

You can get an idea on how the manga volumes might add more to the story than what the anime covers. The anime arcs can be breakable into two parts. One part is Phos’ exploration of the outside world and their encounters with Moon People (the Lunarians). This will last one or two episodes before they arrive at B-Rabbit’s place, where they battle it out. Then, there’s Cinnabar’s investigation in their own world to find other gems like them. According to this, it can be suggested that part could go for 4 or 8 episodes depending on whether the team will meet up with another gem earlier or not.

What percentage of the manga has been adapted into anime?

Orange Animation produced 12 episodes of the anime series between October and December 2017 to cover 31 chapters of the manga series. The anime series Black Bullet and Beastars, which is more renowned than Black Bullet, are other well-known anime series produced by Studio Orange.

Why did Phos get so much stronger?

Phos was one of the best fighters in Houseki no Kuni. However, they became a lot stronger during the break between Seasons 1 and 2. And now, even Cinnabar is having a tough time against them. Even B-Rabbit got transferred to another place because it’s too dangerous for Phos’ allies to stay near them. All the information we get in next season which is season 2. You have to wait until Season 2 starts next year.

Cast of “Houseki no Kuni” Season 2

Some of the cast of season 2 has been known. The Houseki No Kuni Season 2 Cast has been announced, and some of the names are different from the first season. Names of them are given below:

  • Kurosawa being Phosphophyllite
  • Mariya will play the role of Antarcticite
  • Benitoite being Ari Ozawa
  • Jade will play the role of Ayahi Takagaki

Role of Mariya Antarcticite

Yuki’s seiyuu is now Mariya, but her new name is unknown. It also appears that she’ll have a slightly different personality compared to Yuki, so it might be worth seeing how they explain her change of character or if they don’t at all. Yasushi Miyabayashi will be voicing Benitoite.

Role of Ari Ozawa being Benitoite

Jade will still be playing Jade, no news on his seiyuu yet. Other than that there seems to be no cast changes. The cast already seemed great with both Mariya and Jade, so it’s a bit surprising that Matsuo and Takagaki are any different at all. I’m not sure if they’re still the same seiyuu or not.
