FSSAI Registration: Applying for Your Restaurant’s FSSAI Food License

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) establishes regulations to guarantee the healthfulness and quality of food sold in the country. They’ve set up a system all around the country to disseminate reliable data on food safety, cleanliness, and related topics.

Consumers are increasingly selective about where they spend their money, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is cracking down hard on businesses that operate without a valid license.

We know how challenging it can be to navigate the registration procedure. If there is anything we can do to make the process easier for you, we will.

A license and registration from the FSSAI is…

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is commonly abbreviated to “FSSAI.” The FSSAI Registration Service is the official permission for a business to sell food for profit. According to the FSSAI website, everyone running a business that deals with food in any capacity (including but not limited to production, processing, storage, distribution, or retail) is required to register with the FSSAI. Consequently, the FSSAI’s purview extends beyond the hospitality industry. An FSSAI License is not only a legal certification, but also a symbol of superior food quality. A 14-digit registration number is issued after successful registration with the FSSAI. In turn, the scope of operations will determine the scope of the necessary license (which will be discussed below). Use this as your establishment’s official identification number.

Responsible party for issuing FSSAI License

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India grants the required FSSAI License. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an independent government agency that reports to the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It was founded under India’s Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 (FSSA Act of 2016), a single piece of legislation governing the country’s food supply from production to consumption. Through its primary functions of regulation and monitoring of food safety, FSSAI is primarily responsible for the protection and promotion of public health.

The best way to obtain an FSSAI Certificate

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has just released an online application process known as the Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS). Here’s where you may find the link to the page: (FLRS)

Users can now apply for a license and verify their qualifications using FLRS. In addition, it notifies business owners by email and text message when it’s time to renew registration and licenses.

FSSAI also allows for offline payment methods, if that is more convenient for you. If the application fee is not paid online, the applicant must submit a demand draft for the full amount within 15 days of submitting the online application form and all required supporting papers to the appropriate State Authority.

FSSAI Authorization Varieties

There are three distinct varieties of FSSAI License

Acquiring Your FSSAI License From The Central Office

Food business owners (FBOs) must have a valid Central Food License from the Central Government. When a state has been functioning for more than a month, a centralized food license can be issued. Consequently, the central license is only valid for the central office, but it extends to all regional offices. Restaurants (FBOs) with an annual revenue of over 20 crores typically apply for a central license. The Central License can be held for a maximum of five (5) years and a minimum of one (1) year.

Validation of the FSSAI State License

It is mandatory for eateries of any size to obtain the FSSAI state license. The local authority in the state where the restaurant will be located issues this permit. Keep in mind that the State FSSAI License in Delhi requires the restaurant to operate in only one state. So if a restaurant has an annual turnover lying between 12 lakh to 20 lakh INR then it will need a State license. This license has a maximum validity period of 5 years, with a minimum of 1 year.

Initial FSSAI Registration

Restaurants with yearly sales of up to INR 1 lakh are considered “small and low turnover” and are therefore needed to register with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) (basic). The relevant state government also issues this FSSAI Registration Services. This license might be valid for as long as 5 years and as short as 1 year.

Prices for FSSAI Permits

Prices for FSSAI licenses change depending on the specific type of authorization being requested. Costs for maintaining FSSAI registration range from a low of 100 INR per year (for the bare minimum) to a high of 7500 INR per year (for the FSSAI Central License).
